CENTRAL INTERCEPTOR

Māngere Pump Station site

The Māngere Pump Station (MPS) construction site is the largest on the Central Interceptor (CI) project, hosting numerous simultaneous construction activities.  A key part of the CI project is the construction of a new confluence chamber at the Māngere Wastewater Treatment Plant.  This is a large concrete box that will hold wastewater flows from three existing interceptors (Western, South-western and Eastern) and the new Central Interceptor before wastewater flows into the plant. The Central Interceptor project stretches across 17 sites from Māngere to Pt Erin, Herne Bay.

Planning for the chamber's construction has taken almost three years. Much of the complexity is because it is not possible to isolate the flow from those three interceptors, which can total up to 13 cubic metres per second in wet weather.

For this critical project, Asmuss supplied AVK series 54 metal seat gate valves.  These valves are engineered with built-in safety and quality, featuring a metal seat that withstands high temperatures and resists deformation under long-term compression, ensuring stable and reliable long-term operation.

WARKWORTH STREET PUMP STATION

WARKWORTH STREET PUMP STATION

Asmuss Steel and Flow Control played a pivotal role in the successful completion of the Warkworth Street Pump Station project, undertaken by McConnell Dowell. We built the new 247 litre per second wet well / dry-well pump station adjacent to an existing pump station in Lucy Moore Memorial Park, implementing construction strategies and approaches to protect the sensitive park and river environment. Our scope of work included:
• an above-ground structure 4.4 m high, 9.2 m long and 4 m wide
• structures approximately 12 m below ground including an inlet chamber, gantry crane, drywell, wet well and emergency storage
• an overflow pipe from the pump station to the existing stormwater pond
• ancillary above-ground structures, including an odour control (biofilter), standby generator, transformer, flowmeter chamber, welfare facilities; and
• an access road and carpark

This critical infrastructure project required a significant quantity of high-quality pipe and fittings to ensure the efficient and reliable operation of the pump station. Adhered to stringent quality control standards, ensuring the supplied materials met the highest industry standards and project specifications. Asmuss Steel and Flow Control’s contribution to the Warkworth Street Pump Station project highlights the company’s commitment to delivering high-quality products and services.
